Collection: Blennies

Blennies aren’t the most glamorous fish in the tank but what they lack in size they make up for in attitude. They’ll get to about 3 inches on average. These little bottom dwellers are full of character, always darting around, perching on rocks and giving you that unmistakable “What are you looking at?” look. And they’re some of the best natural algae grazers out there so they’re as useful as they are entertaining.

Popular Blenny Varieties

Red Lip Blenny

We’ve got a soft spot for the Red Lip Blenny (Ophioblennius atlanticus)—and lucky for you, they’re available more often than most. These bold little characters rock a signature pout and a big personality to match. They’re hardy, full of attitude, and always on the move, making them a fun and feisty addition to your tank.

Scooter Blenny

Also known as the Scooter Dragonet, this laid-back cruiser brings chill energy to the sandbed. With its hopping, gliding swim style and unique patterning, the Scooter Blenny is both mellow and mesmerizing. They spend their days scooting along the bottom, picking at microfauna and doing their own thing.

Bicolor Blenny

Half dark, half light, the Bicolor Blenny (Ecsenius bicolor) is as cool-looking as it is entertaining. These little fish are known for their inquisitive nature and will often peek out from rock crevices like tiny underwater spies.

Caring for Your Blennies

Blennies are hardy, easy going fish but they do best in tanks with lots of live rock to explore and perch on.

  • Diet: Mostly herbivores, they love to graze on algae but will also eat herbivore pellets and frozen food.
  • Tank Mates: Generally peaceful but can get territorial with other blennies or similar looking fish.
  • Best Setup: A well established tank with lots of hiding spots and open swimming space.

Blennies bring life, character, and a bit of comic relief to any saltwater tank. Check out our collection and find the right one for your setup!
