How to Care for Montipora Corals

Montiporas are relatively easy to care for as long as you keep your water parameters stable. Here’s what they need:

  • Lighting: Moderate to high – they love good lighting for optimal growth and color.
  • Flow: Moderate to strong – a good amount of water movement keeps them clean and happy.
  • Water Parameters: Keep calcium between 400-450 ppm, alkalinity at 7-11 dKH, and magnesium between 1200-1400 ppm.
  • Placement: Plating varieties do best on rock ledges, while encrusting types love open rockwork and branching Montis look great higher in the tank.
