Collection: Squirrel Fish

Squirrelfish are shy during the day but come alive at night. With big eyes, bold colors and schooling nature they add movement and personality to any saltwater aquarium. If you want a fish that brings action in the evening hours, squirrelfish are the way to go.
Spotlight on Our Squirrelfish
Dusky Squirrelfish
The Dusky Squirrelfish (Sargocentron coruscum) is a deep red beauty with large, dark eyes built for night vision. Reaching around 6 inches, they’re hardy, active swimmers that prefer tanks with plenty of hiding spots.
Short Big Eye Squirrelfish
True to its name the Short Big Eye Squirrelfish (Myripristis jacobus) has big eyes to help it navigate low light conditions. Flashing silver and red this species is peaceful and does well in groups and grows up to 8 inches.
Caring for Squirrelfish
-
Diet: Carnivores that enjoy meaty foods like shrimp, squid, and small fish.
-
Tank Setup: Plenty of caves and rock structures to provide daytime hiding spots. Ideal tank size is large, at least a 70 gallon aquarium.
-
Behavior: Best kept in groups with peaceful tank mates. They may be shy at first but become more active at night. (Special Note: Introduce squirrelfish simultaneously to limit aggression toward one particular fish.)
