Looking to create a more realistic and natural environment for your aquarium? Red mangrove plants (Rhizophora mangle) are an excellent means of accomplishing this while also helping to filter nitrates and phosphates from the tank or refugium.

This order comes with 5 propagule (not seeds) that are reddish brown in color. These are from Florida Mangroves that are near the coastline. They measure anywhere from 5 to 10 inches in length and will easily attach to sand or live rock and will grow heartily with the right lighting conditions. You can use either florescent light that is in the light spectrum of 6000°-8000°K, or simply use a metal halide.

Maintenance is fairly easy as well. Be sure to wipe the occasional excess salt and nutrients that they will excrete from their leaves. Trim the tips to keep their growth under control within the aquarium and clean up any dead leaves as soon as possible.
