Tobacco Basslets (Large)
Tobacco Basslets (Large)
The Tobacco Basslet are a great addition to any fish only aquarium. They are considered to not be reef safe! They are very hardy aquarium species but larger Tobacco Basslets can pose a threat to small crustaceans and smaller fish, especially damselfish, blennies, and gobies. If planning on keeping more than one individual in an aquarium, it's best it be a large aquarium and introduce them at the same time. All members of the Serranus genus are in fact hermaphroditic. Being a carnivore, the Tobacco Basslet will need a diet consisting of meaty foods such as chopped fresh or frozen marine fish, squid, mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp and frozen carnivore preparations. They are commonly found all throughout the keys. As a side note I would strongly urge to keep a top on aquarium they have been known to jump.
